Online Projects
Is this your school's first year on
the Web? Are you looking for a meaningful way to connect
your curriculum with the online world? This month's
Spotlight features a variety of organized, time-tested
online collaborative projects that may help. If you want to
get involved with any of these projects, contact each project's
organizers directly.
- The
Wild Ones
- Your class or your whole school can get involved in this
wildlife monitoring project organized by The Wild Ones,
under the sponsorship of The Wildlife Preservation Trust
International.
- Journey North
- Back for another year, Journey North is the annual
online learning adventure that engages students in a global
study of wildlife migration and seasonal change. Register your class, and you'll watch as spring sweeps
northward across continental North America.
- Live From Mars
- In the course of the next decade, NASA will launch a series of spacecraft to orbit Mars and land on its surface. These missions will focus on studying the conditions for emergent life on Mars, particularly the history of water and climate. By participating in this project, you'll have
access to mission information almost immediately.
- The Electronic Emissary
- By identifying a curricular area of interest, the
Electronic Emissary can "match" you with a subject matter
expert who has volunteered to be an online mentor for your
classroom activities.
- Global SchoolNet's Internet Projects Registry
- Global SchoolNet keeps a comprehensive collection online
educational projects. This clearinghouse of collaborative
possibilities should surely lead you to an appropriate
project for your classroom.
